Il Pozzo Vicino Giocatoli - I

This painting, Il Pozzo Vicino Giocatoli - I (The Well Near the Toys) is the second piece that I colored using solely the primary colors (along with ivory black) from Maimeri.

This is the second of two wells located in the village of Pari, in Toscana, Italia. As the name suggests, the well is located near the toys that the children play with in and around the main Piazza of my little village.

All of my art is a “work in progress”, and this piece is no exception. While I was able to get a satisfactory color for the brickwork, I ended up using what I felt like (and still feel like) was too thick of a coating of paint — thereby causing the brickwork and shutters to come out too saturated for the subject.

This “error” has influenced my successive paintings, encouraging me to experiment with laying down very thin layers of color. I have also taken the time to make high-resolution scans of the sepia-ink-only versions of my works since I was quite pleased with the original inking of this piece.
