La Casa di Basso Giro - II (seppia)
Some places just speak to me, and such is the case with La Casa di Basso Giro. This represents my second attempt, albeit from a different angle, of this house that is almost more of a cottage.
While my initial piece focused on the gateway and the stairs, this piece was more about the pavement and the planters. Something about the patterns in the pavement and the tiering of the planters really spoke to me. I wanted to capture the feeling of going into or looking down into the cottage, which I feel that I was moderately successful in doing.
However, as you all know by now, every piece is an opportunity for exploration and learning. This is one of the first pieces that I did with a transition from the Micron, to the metal nib dip pens (I inked this one before Il Mio Amico - I).
Here, I used a manga style G-Nib with sepia ink, and the thickness of the linework shows. One of the most challenging things with using a metal nib is to let the pen do the work. Unlike conventional ballpoint or gel pens, the ink for the dip pens is very thin, which makes it flow much more easily.
