Il Mio Amico - I
This was my first attempt at usings watercolor on a drawing of a person, and my first attempt in a very long time at attempting to do a piece that focuses upon a human being.
One of the challenges, at least in my mind, of drawing an individual is that so much of one's personality is captured through the shadows and shading, and not necessarily deep line work. I had originally wanted to do this piece using a minimal of sepia ink, however, the piece felt completely unstructured, so I returned to the line work, which I used a metal nib and sepia ink to complete.
This realization set me off to explore another direction once again, this time using much less line and more color and shading to convey both texture and depth.
